Road to Emmaus by Jon McNaughton - 10 Options AvailableArtist Comments :
“I wonder what it was like to walk with Jesus on that occasion after His resurrection? In the scriptures there is the story of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. As the disciples walked they were joined by a man who enquired why they were sad. One of the men Cleopas answered by explaining some of the events which had recently occurred regarding Jesus of Nazareth who had been crucified and was said to have risen on the third day. The mysterious man began to expound the scriptures and explain the meaning of the great events which had just occurred. They invited the man to eat with them and as he broke bread it says, “their eyes were opened and they knew him and he vanished out of their sight. And they said one to another, did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?” As I prepared to create this painting I drew on my memories from a recent trip to Israel. I could see in my mind the Savior walking with these two disciples along the dirt road with the sunlight behind Him somehow cloaking his identity from them. The story says that as he expounded unto them the scriptures their hearts burned within them. I have felt this as I have read the scriptures and have felt the Spirit of the Lord tell me these things are true. On occasion I have felt in a sense that I have walked with Him along the dusty Road to Emmaus.”
