2 Corinthians 5:7

We encounter the beautiful and intelligent Abigail in 1 Samuel 25. Through her adept use of discernment, Abigail saved the lives of all her household. Her husband, Nabal, a wealthy, overbearing scoundrel, rudely insulted David, the future king of Israel, and his men. Warned by her servant, Abigail reacted quickly with poise, wisdom and creativity to save her household from David’s wrath.

Abigail brought about peace with her reflective words to David. She used wisdom and discernment when approaching him in order to not disrespect her husband but to bring light to David’s eyes that killing Nabal would take David out of God’s will.

With her honest, persuasive words, Abigail was able to change the direction of David’s life with her influential boldness and tempered restraint. When dealing with difficult people, use Abigail’s qualities of encouragement, inspiration, gratitude and a servant’s heart. Because of her faith, Abigail experienced grace (the love and favor of God) throughout the situation that her husband created.

Remember, you always have a choice when deciding what to do in every situation. Choose God and He will grant you the grace to deal with your situation in a manner that is pleasing to Him and benefits all those involved.
