Our Refuge and our Strength by Morgan Weistling inspired me to write this poem. I wrote it from the point of view of Peter, who had the amazing experience of actually walking on water to meet Jesus. My daughter also wrote a poem inspired by this piece, which is in our own home.
“Peter and Jesus”
I was walking on water,
As light as air
Walking on water,
The wind in my hair
He told me to meet Him,
He called me to come,
I wanted to reach Him,
Jesus the Son
The waves rocked beneath me,
The tempest was rough
Boisterous winds
Made walking real tough
I wasn’t so light now,
And started to doubt
How could I do this
With such turmoil about?
For a moment I faltered,
And looked down beneath
My doubt turned to fear,
And I started to sink
Starting to panic,
I knew I would drown
Suddenly I felt it,
His hand reaching down
He reached down and saved me,
And brought me above
From the storm and my doubts,
His eyes filled with such love
Thank you, dear Jesus,
For pulling me out,
Forgive me dear Lord
For my fears and my doubts
I was walking on water,
My savior so near
I didn’t know then,
I had nothing to fear
